Editorial note:This year marks the 30th anniversary of China’s reform program that started in the economic sectors and has transformed the country in all aspects beyond recognition. In this issue, our articles are about past and future reforms.
In his article’ A Look Back: 30 Years of Industrial Reform in China’ , Professor Jin Bei gives a review of the industrial reform that reflect the country’s pursuit of Chinese socialism and economic reform, and identifies what has been achieved and what challenges still lie ahead.
Living abroad for many years, Mr. Wang Shaoguang has both an international perspctive and in-depth understanding of China. His article ‘Great Social Transformation Afoot in China’ acutely sheds light on the problems of the reform and where it should head.
Hu Xiaopeng is a youthful economist and has shared his ideas on China’s economic reform in the article ‘Social Transition Lags behind Economic Transition in China’ , which holds that social vacancy is the hallmark of the economic reform that has led to the high concentration of wealth in the hands of the few.
Every author has their unique life experiences and academic interests, and their articles may bring about your own views and comments. As Confucius said, “at thirty, I found my balance through the rites”, after thirty years, the historical status and legacies of the reform and opening-up program are now open to our assessment. We believe that review of the past will help China fare better in the future.
