China should Accelerate Legislation on Social Security

Editorial note:The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis brought disaster to south-eastern Asian countries. It also shocked China’s social security system. In order to build a consummate social security system, China has undergone continual reform and has achieved sound results. In this article, the author reviews 10 years of development in China’s social security system, analyzing its problems and challenges.
In this chapter, we will begin with a brief overview of the developments of China’s social security system between 1997 and 2007, highlighting the role and effects of the system in meeting its own challenges.
How to improve the socialist market economy and the problems and challenges confronting the system will also be analyzed. In conclusion we will attempt to put forward suggestions on how to improve the present system.
