Economic Growth-Development "Sound and Rapid"

“Sound and rapid” has replaced “rapid and sound” as China’s guiding principle for economic growth. Behind such a change in phrasing, the Chinese government is working hard to transform the pattern of economic growth. In this article, Liu Shucheng,an authoritative researcher of China’s macro economic policies, presents an overview of China’s transition to “high quality” economic growth.
On November 30th 2006, just before the convening of China’s Central Economic Work Conference, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting to discuss the current economic situation and next year’s economic objectives. This meeting put forward for the first time the goal of “sound and rapid” economic growth.
The Central Economic Work Conference held at the beginning of December 2006 further defined “sound and rapid development” as an intrinsic requirement of the “scientific outlook on development”.
